On the 29th, an 10,800-CEU pure car and truck carrier constructed by GSI, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, was delivered in Nansha, Guangzhou. This is the third 10,000-CEU-class car carrier delivered by China, signifying that the country has acquired the capability for batch and series construction in this segment.

The 10,800-CEU car carrier delivered today has an overall length of 230 metres and a beam of 40 metres. It features an LNG and fuel oil dual-fuel propulsion system that complies with the latest IMO emission standards, offering characteristics of green environmental protection, energy efficiency, safety, and reliability. The vessel can flexibly load electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks, with a maximum single-vessel capacity of 10,800 vehicles. Lined up end-to-end, the cars loaded on board would stretch for over 50 kilometres.

In terms of green smart technology, the vessel is equipped with a 1,450 kW permanent magnet shaft generator independently developed by the 704th Research Institute of CSSC, enabling power generation while sailing. The shaft generator alone can meet the vessel's electricity demands while underway without the need to engage auxiliary generators, thus conserving energy. The vessel also incorporates multiple energy-saving and emission-reduction technologies, including hull line optimisation, exhaust waste heat recovery, and a high-voltage shore power system. Furthermore, the ship is fitted with an intelligent ship system that enables smart management of navigation, machinery, and cargo, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and safety.

Upon delivery, the vessel will primarily undertake vehicle trade transportation tasks between Asia and Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe. With the sustained growth in global automotive trade demand, CSSC GSI has cumulatively secured orders for over 40 car carriers, with the 10,000-CEU-class car carrier proving particularly popular in the market since its launch.
